Cinnamon is committed to Fairtrade principles and actively supports
Traidcraft, one of the UK's fair trade pioneers which was established in 1979 as a Christian response to poverty.
Traidcraft go far beyond simply applying fair trade standards to their products.
As well as building lasting
relationships with their suppliers and being engaged in a wide range of charitable projects as well Traidcraft also campaigns
to end the scandal of poverty by ensuring trade is just and people and communities can flourish.
Traidcraft is
committed to working in new and innovative ways. They have been influential in changing the way other businesses work.
Traidcraft's pioneering work has included the setting up of Shared Interest (a co-operative lending society offering
ethical investment in fair trade with the developing world); working with partners to set up the Fairtrade Foundation and
working with Oxfam, Twin Trading and Equal Exchange to set up Cafédirect.
Traidcraft were also the first
to offer a fair trade wine in the UK and to develop Fairtrade cotton through the "In the Cotton Fields Project"
with Agrocel.
But that's not all. Traidcraft set up the Just Pensions project which was the first of its kind
to work direct with investors on pension funds and Traidcraft was the first to spot the threat of Economic Partnership Agreements
(EPAs), which are free trade agreements that force developing countries to open up their markets to EU imports.
